The
Vicars - Notes on The Tracks

conversation with Kirk Matthews about The Vicars tracks on the compilation
- 'No One Listens', 'School' and 'I'm Going Mad' - Kirk said: "Dizzy
(Detour Records / Bin Liner Records) found out about The Vicars, I believe,
by buying up all the demo tapes sent into The Bridgehouse pub that used
to be a major venue on the gig circuit in Canning Town, East London. The
Vicars demo with Alf singing on was one of the tapes he bought. He contacted
me and asked if I had any more material on the band. After I sent him a
CD of all the tracks I had transferred to digital, the three tracks used
on the CD are the ones he wanted. As the author of those tracks I was happy
to give permission for the tracks to be used. I am well aware that I'm not
going to get rich out of this exercise but a few free copies of the CD and
a copy each for the band members of the limited edition vinyl album is better
than nothing. At least after all this time the songs get to be released." Kirk Matthews: "The 2 tracks on Bored Teenagers Vinyl ('No One Listens' + 'School') were recorded at Eden studios in Acton, West London in 1978. I had all The Vicars' demo's transferred to digital last year. I spent a bit of time cleaning up the sound, quality wise, ie. re EQ'ing etc to help it sound less 'flat' as it did on the tape, which was after all over 30 years old!! Not much else was needed as it was a really good recording from a 24 track studio, at the time used by United Artist record company. The bonus track on the CD ('I'm Going Mad') was recorded late 1979, in a private studio in Surrey, belonging to one of the A&R staff working at that time for for Chappel Music Publishers who had an interest in the band. Again just a bit of re EQ'ing etc nothing else." |
